Lasik Eye And Its Surgery Types

Lasik eye is the eye in which the faults are corrected by doing laser operation. The surgery of the eye is performed by a specialist known as ophthalmologist. The person doing the lasik eye operation is called a lasik doctor. These doctors are trained in lasik eye surgery. Lasik surgery is mainly opted by people having in mind the idea of removing glasses or lenses. This surgery is performed on a lasik eye and is a time tested technology. This process is counted in one of the safest treatments for the defects in eye and is also one of the most effective surgeries till now available. In lasik surgery while operating Lasik eye the shape of the cornea is modifies by the use of beam light. After the lasik surgery, lasik eye power increases and you may or may not have to use glasses oir corrective lenses.

The process of the working of our vision

The working of our eye is like a camera. Our eyes are in the shape of balls, the shape of our eye ball is round so that they can receive light rays from the front part and then refract them back. This is done to focus on the retina, the inside back surface of the eye. Then the object from which the light rays are reflected to our eyes appears as an image on the retina, and then the optic nerve which is at back side of every eye transmits the message to our brain. Brain interprets the message and tells the person.

Need of the lasik

The need for the lasik surgery arises when the cornea of the person is not perfectly round, so the image formation on the retina is not proper result into a blurred vision. In such cases, doctor usually comes up with spectacles or corrective lenses. To get rid of glasses and lenses the other technique which is very efficient and useful is lasik surgery.

Types of laser surgery

Lasik stands for laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis.it is mainly used for operating those people who have the problem of short sightedness or very long sightedenes. The main kinds of lasik surgery are

1. Photorefractive keratectomy

It is the original form of lasik. This process involves scrapping surface cells of the cornea and then a larger beam is used to re-shape it.

2. E-Lasik, or LASEK

LASEK stands for laser Epithelial Keratomileusis. It used for the treatment of those people whose thickness of the cornea is very thin and can not be operated with lasik surgery. During this process, the doctor loosens the edges of the cells of the epithelial with alcohol. Then the top layer of cornea is lifted and then the laser is applied on the cornea. After the correction of the cornea by laser, the layer of the cell is re-positioned and to keep the cells in place when they heal, a soft contact lens is placed over the eye.

3. Epi-LASIK

Epi-LASIK stands for epithelial laser in-situ keratomileusis. These are used for those people whose thickness of the cornea are very less and be treated with regular lasik. In this rather than cutting a tiny flap and then loosening it in alcohol, here with the use of a specially designed instrument the flap is separated gently.
