LASIK Lasix Surgery - Correct Your VisionLasik surgery is often misspelled as Lasix. LASIK Lasix is a refractive eye surgery that is performed to minimize dependence of an individual on contact lenses or eyeglasses. It is executed by opthalmologists for the correction of astigmatism. Myopia and hypermetropia. LASIK refers to Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. This surgery permanently reshapes the cornea which is the front clear covering of the eye by employing excimer laser. Microkeratome is a knife which helps to separate a piece from the cornea. After this, surgeons leave a hinge at one side of the flap or piece that has been cut. This flap is then folded showing the stroma, which is the focal point of cornea. Pulses of laser that has been controlled by the computer vaporize a part of stroma and the flap is replaced. This surgery is normally preferred over photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) as the time required for the recovery of the patient is comparatively lesser in this. The pain of the patient is also less. However, at times there have been some examples that proved PRK to be a better alternative than LASIK Lasix. PROCEDURE The patient is almost awake when the procedure is being held. Only a mild sedative like Valium is given to him along with anesthetic eye drops. The execution of the LASIK Lasix surgery is a two step process. The first step is to form a flap from the corneal tissue. Secondly, the cornea is remodeled with laser under the flap. The flap is then repositioned. After the operation, patients are recommended some anti-inflammatory eye drops and antibiotic. These are to be taken for a few weeks after the surgery and then discontinued. Patients are also advised to wear a dark pair of eyeglasses to reduce the exposure of the eyes to bright lights. It also prevents the patient from rubbing his or her eyes when asleep. POST-OPERATION COMPLICATIONS After a week of the LASIK Lasix surgery, blurred vision is one of the common problems that are faced by patients after this surgery. This is especially felt when the eyes are exposed to bright light such as when one is working on a laptop or a PC. This may continue for a longer period of time, may be three weeks or even more. So, a patient has to be patient to actually notice the results of this surgery. Dryness or stickiness is another post operation complication that a patient might have to face. The eye of the patient may get swelled and stick to his eyelid, this might create problems in his vision. In such cases, use of artificial tears can be really helpful. This problem is mainly faced in hot weather. Difficulty in night vision and problems of glare while driving may also be a post-operation complication with some of the patients after the LASIK Lasix surgery. So, there may be some post-op complications that are involved in this surgery, but as they all are temporary and are corrected after a few weeks, the surgery is a good option for the treatment of eyes. |
